If you are suffering from migraines, you may be tempted to asked yourself a lot of questions that begin with the dangerous phrase “What if.”

  • What if I didn’t lose my job due to my health condition?
  • What if I didn’t miss out on that important family gathering?
  • What if I could do the things I really wanted to do each day?
  • What if someone else could really understand what I’m going through?

It’s only natural for those feelings to spring up when a person is dealing with chronic illness, and make no mistake, if you suffer from migraines 15 days or more per month, you are dealing with a chronic health condition. However, it is important to focus on positive things. Here are a few ways to stay positive while dealing with migraines.

Stay Positive While Dealing with Migraines

If you struggle with negative thoughts and “what if” questions, here are 3 things you can do:

  • Keep a Positivity Journal – At the end of each day, write about 3 things you are thankful for. On a bad day, you can still be happy to have your family’s support, and you may be thankful for a quality pillow to rest your head on. On a good day, write down what you accomplished, so that you can look back on a bad day and see that you are still able to be productive.

  • Focus on Others – Your health condition may not allow you to do everything you want for your family, friends, and others. However, you can still spend time thinking about ways to help others or even just to make them smile. A nice direct message on a social media platform might be something you can accomplish, even on a bad day, and knowing you made someone else laugh might help you to feel a little better. Don’t forget to record that on your list of accomplishments at the end of the day.
  • Don’t Give Up – Some have resigned themselves to a life of dealing with migraines. As a result, one may stop looking for alternatives. Even if you have gotten your hopes up and been let down by several types of care, don’t give up. The next one may be what helps.
